Yes, the COGCC website may also have information, especially as production and development occurs. Their website is www.cogcc.state.co.us. Policies amongst assessors vary in Colorado with counties such as Moffat and Logan still taxing unproducing severed mineral interests while counties such as Garfield and Morgan have gone away from taxing unproducing severed mineral interests making any search much harder.
If no one else has a question, we had one more come in via email from Mr. Jones:
--In selling rights, is landman or agent usually needed? If so, what is a reasonable fee and is it
paid by buyer or seller?
--What paperwork is needed for this transaction? Are mineral rights deeds a function of the state
or the county?
A landman or agent is not required for a sale. In Colorado, a title company or most likely an attorney is best situated to faciliate a sale if you are uncomfortable proceeding on your own. Minimal paperwork would include a deed transferring the minerals and preferably a contract prescribing the price and procedure for transfer. Mineral rights transfer are completed by deed and are recorded in the county where they are located.
Thanks for each of your time, participation and views. Sorry if there were other questions we weren't able to get to. Best of luck.
Thank you everyone for your participation. This discussion will now be closed, but you're welcome to start new discussions in the Colorado State Group.
