Thanks Ed, I was just need to know if a driller could actually have spudded in without mineral owners knowing about it.
Ed, what does this mean? No spud date = no well as yet??
Mary, ‘spud date’ is the date at which the drilling head penetrates the surface, according to one site. It’s probably better defined as the date drilling starts. When a driller asks the State to make the well Confidential, it remains in that status for 6 months. I’m a bit of a novice at this, but I was surprised to see no Spud date in the listing. If Mr. Kennedy adds to your post, he can probably give you better information.
A well does show on the State’s GIS map, and is shown in Confidential Status, which means the driller doesn’t have to share any information until it comes off Confidential. Nothing shows in the State’s August production report.
Just checked the well again, the there is no Spud date in the listing.
We have mineral rights in T146 N, R98W, 5th pm, Sec 4, Lots 1&2. We were told that they would be drilling in July but as yet no one has contacted us. Has anyone heard of any activity in that area? Any information would be helpful. Thanks Mary L.
The price you get for your gas will depend upon the BTU value of it. The more ethane, butane, pentane, etc, the more valuable. Gas numbers on your royalty payments usually runs about two months behind.
The report I receive showing ‘my’ gas has, for the past two months pay rates of $6.52 and $6.38. I BELIEVE the units in the report are in MCF. My August report for the well shows a production of 8870 units, for a value of $58,000.
Thanks Ed…
What’s the going rate today for gas prices from the wells?
Mary, Ed nailed it. No spud date means no well. The operator would have to report the spudding of the well to the state and it would be public knowledge, if you knew where to look for it or called the state to inquire. The spudding is not something they get to keep secret, sales of oil is another thing they don’t get to keep secret, even during the confidential period and that knowledge can be found buried in general statistics usually about 6 weeks behind.
Hi Ed, My August report showed a production of 8870 units also. my gas figure rates were identical to yours. It seems we are partners in the same well. Is this the Helling 150-101-7-6-1H well# 5281 in Mckenzie county? It’s good to meet a participant in the forum with the same interests as mine! I hope you have a great time participating in the well.
Ed, My great grandfather was Ted Helling who had farming and business interests around the Williston ND area going back going back to the 40’s and 50’s, if not earlier. My grandmother inherited 1/6 of his mineral rights. My mother inherited 1/3 of my grandmothers mineral rights. I inherited 1/3 of my mothers mineral rights about 14 years ago and I got a royalty check about 3times a year for about $100. My sister told me that she had heard that you have to probate the will in Mckenzie county .We had not done that for those 14 years. She had the will probated on July 23 , 2013. I received a royalty interest check from Kodiak Oil a few weeks ago and it was very welcome! It has peaked my interest in oil and my great-grandfather. I am very much a novice about royalties, leasing, forced pooling, horizontal drilling etc. This seems like a great site to absorb some knowledge. So great to meet you Ed!
Just wanted to say thank you to Ed and Mr. Kennedy, and all who had input regarding my questions. Your forum provides so much information and help to so many, it is much appreciated. Mary L.
The gas from ND is usually extremely rich, it’s just not in the right location so most of it gets flared off. Just imagine what it would bring if it was produced close to where there was a market for it. I think close to 1 billion dollars worth of gas was flared off in ND last year. I know people will tell youy it was far less but you have to remember that the state is valuing the gas at Henry Hub dry gas price. My gas has brought up to $9 per MCF, sounds pretty wet to me. Ed’s prices are what I usually receive per MCF.
Daniel, that is blue chip area, I have one well that has produced 267k bbl oil in the last 2 years in section 24 of that T&R. I have another well there and I have been sent the proposal for a third and a fourth is permitted. If there is not a whole lot of oil under you, you are the only one in a 20 mile radius of you who does not have alot of oil under them. Enjoy life.
Lon, we are partners! I now live in Bellevue, WA, but was born in Alexander, leaving there just after WWII started. My grandfather bought land outside of Alex, and we kept most of the mineral rights when we finally were able to sell the land. Did you lease, or are you a participant?
I was recently informed that I have rights in the Yttredahl Bakken 33-43 area of McKenzie. I have never seen a description like this. Can anyone please tell me where this is and what that description means?
status date shows 1995, but spud date shows 1976
Janie, you’ll notice from the info Snues provided that you have an interest in a very old well, where drilling started 4/3/1976. Here’s how you get to the production reports: in your browser, go to www.oilgas.nd.gov; click on “General Statistics” in the column on the right; then click on “Monthly Production Reports Publications” at the top left; You will be shown a list of the last 6 months or so of production; click on August, for instance. When the PDF is displayed, click on “Edit” then toward the bottom of the list, click on “Find.” In the box that pops up, enter “Yttr” and click and you will be taken to the line item in the report that shows your gas and oil production for that production period. Good luck!
