Meigs County, OH - Oil & Gas Discussion archives

What is Southern’s take from the land owners? How many land owners have signed on in Megis County? Anyone from Chester Township signed on? Any details on who they are talking to.

1% only if you decide to sign the lease, I don’t know exactly how many in Meigs County signed but I would guess about 5k acres, they are taking a total of about 120,000 acres Feb 22 to NAPE Expo in Texas to try and get the best deal and bringing the offer back to us on March 3 or 4. I signed as a member with land in Chester but they are going to hold a meeting in Pomeroy within the next month to try and sign all of Meigs County and more in Athens County, they are going to contact me when the meeting is or call me 740 416 2960.

Rick, thanks for the info. Sounds like, with that kind of acreage they should be able to make a deal. In Col. County the land group charged 3.5% if you signed the lease + $100 dollars to join. They were dealing with Chesapeake. Ended up 5,800 an acre and 20% royalty. I doubt we will see that in Meigs County. I will keep in touch.

Hello, anything going on in Meigs County? Any leasing? Anyone signing up with Southern Ohio Land Owners Group?

I understand Southern wants to sign up the whole county sounds good. But I wonder what they will be asking for in their negotiations. Chesapeake values their leased land at $15,000 an acre. If you’re signing a lease, shouldn’t it be worth at least $7,500 an acre? With natural gas prices low, and the oil companies looking for wet gas I think Meigs County is in a pretty good position. Most of Meigs is in the wet gas area. At least that is what my research shows. Any comments, or input?

They have a meeting in Pomeroy on the 18th at 6:00 pm. Check their site; it was updated today. I think the big picture is that it’s too early to tell what’s worth what yet. They are going to Texas on the 22nd to see what it’s worth and then setting up a meeting in the first week of March to see the offer they might get.

I will check their site, will not be able to attend the meeting. If you make it, let me know of any updates. Should know more in March. I have been watching Athens. It’s been getting kind of amusing watching the leases being filed, and the lawsuits being filed between the oil companies and the title people. A couple good wells would help the landowners in Meigs.

A SHORT STORY. AN INSURANCE MAN STOPPED BY A FARM IN CARROLL COUNTY TO GO OVER THE FARMER’S POLICY. AS THEY SAT AT THE KITCHEN TABLE, WHICH WAS COVERED WITH PAPERS, AS IS NORMAL THE INSURANCE MAN NOTICED A CHECK AMONG THE PAPERS. IT WAS FOR 1,400,000. HE ASKED WHAT IT WAS. THE FARMER SAID, IT’S JUST A CHECK FROM THE GAS COMPANY FOR LEASING MY FARM. I JUST HAVEN’T GOT AROUND TO TAKING IT TO THE BANK.

Did anyone attend the landowners meeting on the 18th? Would like to know of any proposal or suggestions that might have come up. Any input?

I was at the meeting with about 120 others. It was the first in Meigs County. The next meeting will be March 24. Once they update their website you will be able to read and print out a copy of the landowner agreement, fill it out and mail it in. If you cannot make it to the meetings, you can still contact me or follow more info on the group at gomarcellusshale.com and search for Meigs County or Athens County landowners.

Thanks Rick, I will check out their web site and keep in touch.

After reading a post on MarcellusShale.com, Athens, landowners, I cannot understand some of the thinking they put forth. As I read about some of these landowner groups, representing the people in Athens County, all I can say is, beware! Read the article in http://athensohiotoday.com. I sure would not want Atty. Polochak representing me. I think you would be better off dealing with the oil companies on your own. Get a good gas and oil attorney to help you on your lease.

Don’t forget, your land is worth $15,000 an acre after you lease it to the oil company. Think before you lease.

Anyone seen any seismic testing going on in Meigs County? Need to keep everyone informed and be informed.

This is some very good reading to help you understand how the oil and gas companies check your land for oil and gas deposits. You need to be informed when dealing with companies wanting to lease your land.
