Mitchell County, TX - Oil & Gas Discussion archives

Mary Jane…Dr. Bill Rhode and Dr. Root were physicians in Colorado City. I believe my parents told me Dr. Bill was related to the Mahon’s long time Congressman and judge. I think Dr. Bill’s children are somewhere up north…someone who grew up there may know.

I don’t know if this link will work for you, but it is where I am currently and it is very helpful. http://gisweb.glo.texas.gov/glomap/index.html

Best of luck Toni. Oh, my land is in Sec 17, Block 25. Any activity near there that you are aware of? Thanks

Thank you all for the information

Two companies are mineral rights bidding in Mitchell county on some land we have, KEW and FireWheel Exploration company - are you familiar with either of these companies? Are they trustworthy companies? thanks

Thank y’all for help on the land office map. Bill had time to look at it today and was navigating around on it pretty good.

George, I will look after lunch at my map and tell you where those sections are in relation to the drill site on the Webb lease. Is that what you are wondering. ( Working on a cooking project for a family member right now and she will come by in a little bit to pick it up.)

Toni … I know you live in Colorado City … right in the action. I’ve been to Colorado City a number of times, back in the old refinery days. I also own the mineral rights to 40 acres south on Highway 208, just a few miles inside the Mitchell County Line (from Nolan County). Back in 1976 we leased to Sun Oil, and TIPCO drilled a well on our 40 acres. It was a wild cat off an existing well, just about 300 yards. They got a 480 Barrel well, and TIPCO decided to “frack” the well to see if they could get more production (… or so they said). They killed the well. Today, it shows up on the maps as a dry hole. I am now leased to Devon. My property is S/2 of Section 1, Block 12, H&TC RR Co. Survey. I’ve talked to Devon, and they know the history of this area … and they know there is oil there. It’s just a matter of time before they drill in our 320 acre pool. Back in 1978, we had some minority royalty owners from Colorado City and Westbrook. Rozelle Dohoney (Westbrook), Ruth Grantland (Colo City), Jack S. McKinney (Colo City), Rex T. McKinney (Westbrook), Joe H. Morren (Estate of Mabel Wallace - Colo City), W. S. And Naomi Rhode (Colo City), Charles Root (Colo City), Susie A. McKinney (Westbrook), I thought you might know some of these people, or their families. We were all in the “same boat” with TIPCO and Sun Oil back in the old days. Is is very hard for me to get a feel of there these sections and blocks are located … and you mentioned a map showing the sections and blocks. Can you tell me how I can get a copy of that map? I would appreciate it very much … and will send the cost by return mail. Just let me know. Mary Jane Gibson, 6926 South 67th East Avenue, Tulsa, OK 74133 - 918-792-7914.

“Devonites”. Pretty funny, Toni.

Mary Jane-

Google Texas GLO and the GLO land map is very easy to use to locate blocks and sections.

Wade - Thank you for the advice on googling the Texas GLO map. That is ineed a very good map and very easy to navigate. Thanks again. Also, on this map north of Loraine, one the west side of FM 644, there is a red line with a red dot on one end and a red circle on the other. Would this possibly be a horizontal well? I will look for the legend later when I have a little more time.

The GLO map has started adding wells and permitted wells as overlays. There is a legend in the upper right hand corner and some tutorials on how to navigate in the right column.

Firewheel is good, KEW offered but they were low…they are a family owned I guess, don’t know if they have the money to drill though

Robert, I really don’t know about anything in the northeast part of the county because I never go up there. Been trying to think of who lives up there and might have an interest in joining our group. Cody H do you farm up that way?

Thanks for checking Toni. If you do hear of something up in NE Mitchell please post it. I am on the far west side of the Loraine windfarm. Take care!

I will sure let you know if I see anything Robert.

Any current info on the peipeline out of Colorado City?

Diana, early this month I corresponded with Paula Farrell, Director, Investor Relations, with Magellan Midstream Partners and asked her about the status of the BridgeTex Pipeline. She said, “We remain in advanced discussions with our partner Oxy to determine if we will move ahead with the proposed BridgeTex pipeline”.

Magellan had a press release on Sept. 25 regarding their intent to release their third quarter financial report in early November, but no mention was made of the pipeline project. Let us know if you hear anything more. Don

looks like 3 different companies hauling cement, Ingram is one of them and Sweetwater readymix and I think Concrete mobility, my husband tried to follow one of them, they went north on FM1229 after going in front of our house on CR 305, they kept going north under I-20, and he said the drive noticed him and took off like a banshee and lost him…lol…not a very good screcret agent

Ok folks heads up, don’t know what is going on but we live on CR 305 in Mitchell Co, close to FM1229, there were at least 6 concrete trucks I noticed go by in front of our house from East to West to FM 1229, then north on FM 1229, so far today there have been 20 and it is only 1:03pm, anyone have any ideas

Not sure Seibold, sometimes they build a concrete foundation for rigs. Is anyone building a location in your neck of the woods? Or what about the wind turbine project in the north part of the county, the one that has a sign on North 208, actually it might be in Scurry County. Wonder if they are constructing platforms of some kind? That does sound like a lot of concrete.
