This was my experience with the Oklahoma Treasury department unclaimed property division regarding escheated royalties that had been turned over by the leasing company to them.
The royalties had been in suspense for several years (unable to locate owner to send check) and by law the leasing company has to turn the funds over to the state after so many years. However, leasing company paid royalties in error to a relative that had been written out of the original mineral owners will in 1952; specifically mineral interests. We filed a claim with OTD.
The Oklahoma Treasury department stated since the funds they are holding were paid in error they can not release the funds or assist any further.
They stated the leasing company who turned over (escheated) the funds to them would need to contact the Oklahoma Treasury Department, recall them, and we would have to file a claim with lease company. We are in the process to this point.
