Let me first state I am nearly new to the mineral rights discussion, as I inherited the rights several years ago, but recently had some rights start producing. Also, I do not reside in Weld County, nor the state of Colorado, so I can't get on the ground to see what's occuring.
As noted in the title, I have rights in 10N 58W 27NE. I noticed that Whiting has started production on 10N 58W 27NENW back in November. I am wondering if my section (27NE) covers this section? What do they mean by 27 NENW? Is it the northwest area of 27NE?
Thanks!
Ken - I have production by Whiting just east of your location. We are in 10N 57W S18. I have no idea how much interest you have in their production in 10N 58W S27, but you are in for a ride. First of all - Whiting. They have been absolutely great - not a complaint about anything - and from what I have seen others saying about their producers, I am very happy to be dealing with Whiting.
You need to learn to go to the Oil & Gas Conservation Commission website to see what is going on in your area. Here is lesson one. On the internet (1) go to "cogcc.state.co.us", (2) click on "maps" in the menu on the left edge, (3) click on "GIS online", when the state map appears, (4) click on "Zoom" at the top task bar, (5) then input "10N58W" and click on "zoom to", when the map appears, (6) click on the box in the left margin labelled "directionals".
Now sit back in amazement at what Whiting has planned for that Section. It is my guess that they have designated all three sections involved as one drilling block and you will share in the royalties from all of the wells being planned, but I don't know that for sure. This is all going to happen in the next 12-24 months, at least that is their drilling plan as found on their company's website.
Hope that this helps. Ed Selby
Thanks for the reply Ed...
We already are doing business with Whiting on another section we have, and it's been a nice return so far. They have decreased the amount of production since July, don't know what that's about.
I'll have to take some time to figure out the map and what it's telling me. Still trying to figure out this quadrant thing. Does NE mean the whole NE quadrant of 27? and when they say NENW does that mean the northwest area of the northeast section?
I am not a landman and don't know the answer to that question. In our property description it says E2/SW4 and SE4. All references are to areas in Section 18 (in our case). (E2/SW4) means East Half of the Southwest Quarter of the Section, and SE4 means all of the Southeast Quarter of the section. I don't know if that will help you decipher your description. If you don't figure it out, let me know the exact full description and I will ask a friend who was a landman until he recently retired.
The Northeast Quarter of the Northwest Quarter (NENW)
Northeast Quarter (NE)
West Half (W2)
North Half of South Half (N2S2)
