14 - 1S - 4W Help

I too am new to this forum and to the mineral right venue.

I have been reading all the forum discussions on this section, and am wondering how to find out if there is a current lease on my rights.

I inherited them when my mother passed in 2010, and her paperwork indicated there may have been a lease on it - will states "SW/4 SE/4 and W/2 of SE/4 SE/4, Section 14, Township 1 South, Range 4 West Stephens County, OK - Owner #0003732054 Lease # Carnes 8158100000. Paid by Sun Refining and Marketing Co., PO Box 2039, Tulsa, OK 74102 - an undivided 1/3 interest"

Would my first step be to contact Sun to see if the lease is still in effect? I don't believe she was receiving any $$ at the time of her passing, and I have not since. Nor have I received any new offers as I'm reading others are getting. Her will was probated and filed in Stephens Co.

Any help and information would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Linda B., You might check the court house records on the internet at the website I'm sending. Just put the description of the royalty (Section 14, 1S, 4W and Stephens County) and that might get it but you may need to put in your mother's name or your name. It should tell you who and when anyone leased it if it has not been too far back. It would name your mom probably as the leasor and Sun or whoever as the leasee. I don't believe Sun exist under that name anymore. I believe they were sold out or taken over by another company but I can't remember who.

Hope this helps! Linda Keck

I think I got my "Leasor" and " Leasee" turned around backwards but you can probably figure it out. lol

Linda K - thank you - I also don't think Sun is in existence.....I'll try using your link!!

The only think I get is when her will was filed in 2010......

I was wrong on both ways it's Grantor (your party) and Grantee (the oil company) . Looks like LE Jones Production Co was leasing up quite a bit around that time but I didn't see Sun.

Don't put in her name or any dates and see if you can get the pages I got. It'll say something like O&GL for Oil and Gas Lease or OGL on the left side of the Grantor's name after you get to the pages.

Maybe because I'm not "signed up" - but I am not getting anywhere to put in Grantor or Grantee and your most current link just takes me to the look up page........Thanks though....

I see what you are talking about now - I think I'm not finding anything further than her will is because of the time frame that they have.....I know she inherited many years ago, so no telling when that lease was signed.....I guess if it is available, and someone is doing research into it, they will eventually contact me.....I did register with Oklahoma Mineral Owner's Registry so maybe that will help also....

I'm not sure that you have to sign up but all you need to put on the search page is the Section 14, 1S,4w. Blank out the dates that appear on the search page. Don't even put in any names or what you are hunting for (ie: OGL) After you get into the pages with all the names on it is where it will have the OGL or Heirship etc. Sorry, I know it's confusing. Some of these other people like Michael H. helped me find it the first time. Maybe they will click in and help here. I'm going on the net and try to find out who took over Sun. Sun was in business when my husband worked in the oil field but he can't remember who took them over. I'll check back with you if I find out.

Thanks - I think maybe our posts crossed.....I got to where you were talking about........

Sun Oil Co. is now Sunoco.

I thought so.....I'll try contacting them for any info - Thanks for your help!!

Linda

What was your mothers name?

There are some wells in that area that are still producing. Some under the "Carnes" Lease that were producing as late as 2011. LE Jones has most of the current leasehold in that section.

Rick

Rick - my mother's name was Hazel Schlegel

I would guess that the lease was from the 50's. The Stephens Co online records index only goes back to around 1991. You might call LE Jones and see if they have (or will release) any info. 580-255-1191.

I should be in the Stephens Co court house in the next 2-4 weeks. I can take a quick look when I'm there.

Linda,

Most of the wells involved with Sun in that area would be from the late 40's through the 50's with either LE Jones or Citation being the most current operator.

Thanks very much, Rick, I appreciate the help and the info!! I'll try contacting LE Jones. I'm not sure if that was a lease my mom signed or was with info from when she inherited...I know Sun has been gone quite some time. Again, thanks for the help!

Linda,

Do you know the details of when she inherited it and from who?

She either inherited from my grandmother - Ethel Bolin or an aunt Mame Whitenack - or possibly another cousin - Dollie R Hall..........I don't remember exact dates, but my grandmother passed in Dec of 1979 - Mame Whitenack would have been several years before and Dollie Hall passed in I think '82 or '83......I'd have to pull old records I have in storage to find exact dates.....those are the ones that would have passed on any mineral rights to her....does that help any?
