The Wiley well was our first with no idea the royalties would decline as fast. Now with a small but welcome royalty check, my question is what is the life span of a well? Thank you for your help on this forum!
The answer to that question depends upon many factors-type of well-vertical or horizontal, quality of the completion, number of perforations, how wide a choke they are flowing the well on, interference of other wells, gas or oil well, etc.
In general, horizontal wells give up a good portion of their production in the first four years or so, but then the steep decline in production levels out and many of those wells can last decades at a very low rate.
