Action on S33-7N-6W

I grew up on a farm west of Tabler in the NE quadrant of S33-7N-6W, and it seems my Granddad/Dad left me and my sisters with some mineral rights in that section, along with a bunch of uncles, aunts, and cousins. I leased my rights a few years ago for a small bonus. Now I am getting offers to purchase at $5,500 per acre.

A cousin reports someone is about to spud a well on that land. I am interested in any information about what is happening there, how to find more information, and the status of any drilling activity. Also, if there are any old friends from the mid-1950s around, let me know. This is both for whatever royalties may come along, but also because of my early years there and wondering about how the drilling might affect the old homestead. When I looked on Google Maps, the trees and slough are missing, the creek has been straightened, and several of the buildings have been replaced, but some familiar things remain.

The family name is Penny. My grandfather bought the place about 1910; Dad sold the land about 1956.

I found a report written in 1913 that Grady county would never have an oil or gas show because of the geology. Seems like things have changed.

Cheers, Sam Penny

Sam,

Since January 1, 2013 there have been 19 drill permits issued for Grady County Oklahoma. Quite a bit of drilling activity going on in the County. Somebody knows something you don't know. I don't know if I would be too anxious to sell those minerals if they were mine. I tried pulling up some completion reports and initial production reports on those 19 wells and nothing has been posted as of yet. These oil companies/producers don't want their competitors knowing what's going on. The information on completions and IP I tried to pull up was from the OCC website. Someone else on the County Forum may have some further information.

Sam, Continental Resources, one of the major players in the area, plans to drill that section. On March 19 they applied for Spacing, Pooling and Location Exception orders. These applications receive a judicial hearing and if recommended they will go before the Commissioners for final approval. This process could take several months or more and then they can apply for a permit and spud the well. If all goes as planned you may have a producing well within the next year.

Sam i have a farm in sec 337n6w and they have built the lucky penny lease down below the house and i notice that they are setting cellar pipe today and drilling rathole.rig will be moving in soon.I’ve been told that they expect this well to be the best one so far.also there building location on sec 28 7n 6w across the road on me and it will be ready for a rig before long.

Our family has mineral rights in Grady County at S17-T9N-R8W & S7-T7N-R8W. We were recently contacted by a landman from TODCO out of Norman, OK about leasing the mineral rights in the S7-T7N-R7W. Preliminary offer is for $450 an acre bonus plus 3/16. Anyone have any info about planned drilling close to our mineral rights?

Nick,

Is your farm in the NE quarter? There is a 32 acre chunk out of the northeast corner of the quarter section that my grandfather sold to my uncle Owen in the early 1920s, and the old railroad right-of-way runs across the property. If so, that is where I grew up.

If your farm is in the NW quarter, then that is where the Weaver family and Reynolds family lived. I don't figure you have a house down in the bottom land. That land used to flood from East Bitter Creek one or more times a year. Looking at Google Maps, I figure it still does if there is a big rain.

I look forward to hearing from you. It is good to have eyes on the ground. My sisters and I now live in California and often wonder what is going on.
