My mother was made aware that she was one of 3,000 descendants of some 70 acres in West Virginia on her mother’s side. It’s been almost 2 years and she has paid them a small fee last year. She just received new papers to sign from them. Although there are what looks like six properties the percentage is around 5 millions of a percent on each, is it even worth it? Is it worth taking to a lawyer? If all 3,000 of The descendants did not agree with the percentage go up? Why were they not made aware before they even started drilling on the property? Thank you very much for any feedback
It would be wise to talk to an attorney for anything requiring a legal signature that involves money. The percentage is based upon the ownership of the mineral acres, not the “agreement”. Did she sign a division order or is this a lease? Get legal help is possible if this is a lease!
