can someone help to decipher this. i received division orders form Marathon stating i have four pooling wells and 1 that is watermarked-an assignment of lease. it states Anadarko onshore and Kerr-Mcgee onshore as assignors. trying to search it up but having a hard time getting any info. thx
Anadarko acquired Kerr McGee many years ago. Anadarko Petroleum be Anadarko Onshore. When assigning leases held by Kerr McGee to other companies, Anadarko Onshore and Kerr McGee both are cited. Many of the leases owned by Kerr McGee were originally granted to other lessees and assigned over the years, sometime multiple times. You need to research the history in deed records, backward and forwards from your predecessor to find the chain. It can get complex. A lot of very old leases are subdivided by depths as well as by percentages and so your lease may be owned by multiple companies.
