Bobby Yancey Well #1 - Stealth Test Well For Comstock?

I drove by the wellsite this morning. Rig is gone, but the gate guard RV is still there. In addition, there was a guy sitting in a pickup parked beside the RV.

It’s possible that they are still moving equipment out (can’t see the pad from the road) which would explain why the gate guard is still there. However, it is also possible that they only had a rig commitment for the test well and perhaps another rig will be brought in soon.

You would think that if they had planned to possibly drill a horizontal well they would have started with a rig capable of drilling horizontal at the 18,000 plus depth with a 10,000 plus lateral. This rig showed 25,000 capability. Probably only they know, I don’t.

With all the testing, maybe something exciting will happen.

Drove again to the well site today(Saturday, 1/4/2025).

No rig, but the ICD Rig 301 sign is still there. However, I was told that Enverus shows Rig 301 is stacked in a yard in West Texas between Odessa and Midland. Rig arrived there on January 2 after a 500-mile journey. Seems unlikely that Rig 301 will be coming back to this location.

Gate guard was gone, but the gate was open, so I drove a short distance up the pad road (didn’t want to go too far and get in trouble!). I was able to see a crane and multiple portable buildings on the pad. Certainly looks like drilling could occur soon, but nothing is certain.

A previous poster stated that trucks had been observed leaving the site a few weeks back with empty trailers that appeared to be for hauling heavy equipment. My bet now is that they hauled in equipment to be used to dig a frac pond.

To TroubledVictor: Any chance of getting another drone photo? Would be useful to see if a frac pond has been dug. Thanks.

Sure thing, this is from 12/31/2024.

Thanks! Unfortunately, it doesn’t show any signs of frac pond construction. If one is to be built, I expect it would be in that open space to the top left in the photo. From there, a water line would be run down to 227 and then west to the Trinity River.
