Coal Mine in Moffat County Rights and Use Questions

Hi not sure if anybody reads this - but I recently learned that my family owns an old coal mine in Craig that just sits there. We own the mineral and water rights but im not familiar with the area. Are we losing out on anything but just letting sit there or should we look into leasing it? And if so - anybody know of anybody that has had any luck with something similar?

OLD is the critical word. You need to do some research on the history of the area. If the coal seam was depleted, then there will be no interest in moving forward. Did they properly restore the area? Do you have an open hole liability? If it was economic, someone would probably have already contacted you.
