I inherited several mineral rights that were lease years ago and are still producing. Unfortunately my relatives do not have an actual copy of any leases! I have questions about one specific lease in Winkler County, TX. Where do I go to get an actual copy of that lease?
Note for the future. Always keep a copy of the lease. The lease or a memorandum of lease should have been filed in the county courthouse where the minerals are located. Some counties can be found on www.texasfile.com, but others older than a certain date are only in paper form and you have to go to the county. The operator is also supposed to have a copy of the lease. You can send a certified letter and request a copy. Send it to the division order department. Some operators are more forthgiving than others.
