I have 87.5 acres of mineral rights in the NW/4 of Section 29, Township 15 North, Range 17 W.I.M., Custer County, OK. Different companies have held the lease since 1966 at 1/8 interest. There has been little income from it. I have been told by one person that even if they drill a new well, I will not get any income unless it is for surface rights. Another person has told me that I will get income if there is a new well but at only 1/8 interest. Which is correct? Thank you, Oneida

@oneida_valentine, if the old lease has been held by production, the 1/8th royalty would still apply to any new wells.

There are two gas vertical wells and one horizontal well in that section. Encino has the Centennial horizontal well. Mustang and Arnold have the two gas wells. They are older wells. Any new wells will be held by the original lease as long as it is valid. Mewbourne has permits for new longer horizontal wells nearby, so if those are successful, there might be more interest in your section for new drilling. Time will tell.
