Yes! Both you and Arnold have been so helpful to everyone here on these forums. I think we all have a lot to learn, and are learning more every day because of you guys! Thank you!
Katrina- those wells do not show up on the Oil and Gas Well permit list as of yet. It doesn’t mean they aren’t going to be drilled, just hasn’t shown up yet. If you got a lease royalty, then they are most likely going to dig it up eventually!
Here’s a plat file for one of my well interests:
Nancy, Thank you so much! The numbers I have I am taking directly from my leases. I will order my tax map today. I think that is the piece of the puzzle that I am missing. Some of the names of the wells that I have aren’t showing. This is crazy! Laugh! Seems like there should be an easier way, right? Antero has not been much help, in this area. You’d think they’d know as they are recorded to be the operator! Darin, and Arnold, thanks to you too! And by the way…some money showed up in my checking account from Antero last night! But I do not have an email with the royalty statement attached! Whaaat? Laugh! Guess I will have to call again. It really is much less than I was expecting. BUT I am not complaining!
Can I get an Amen? I received our first deposit first thing this morning! I don’t know what Unit yet, I haven’t received an email either. But thank the Lord something is happening! Mom and Dad, RIP, you did right!!
I also concur, my Grandpa that only had a seventh grade education really knew what he was doing AFTER-ALL. GOD BLESS HIM.
God Bless all of you! I am wearing my WV turtleneck today to commemorate my home state. This summer, I plan on traveling up to Doddridge County to take some pictures of these well heads- for general record-keeping, and something to get the kids more interested in!
Has anyone heard anything about Antero starting the pads in McClean District, The name of the unit is to be Banner and Tabor? Any information would be helpful. We got the bonus check in 2011 but have not heard anything since. Thanks for any help.
Katrina
Thank you Darin for the information. I guess they really have another year and a 1/2 to do something since we signed it for five years. If anyone sees anything on this any info would be appericated. THANKS AGAIN!!
I think it was on this site that somebody, I think Arnold Stuart, shared the downloads link. Very useful. Glad you are able to use it. Just a thought: When I use it on Firefox it works well, but I think I have Silverlight (or something like that) on that browser. When I use it on Chrome sometimes the plats don’t display unless I download them. The text pages are ok.
Jacqueline, I guess you mean the tax map and parcel number? If you have the API number, Darin’s system works well. If you have the unit name, you can usually find the API permit number by using this WV OOG permits
and put in the county, and for well number put in the unit name. Then try the downloads. If they haven’t approved things to a certain point then there won’t be anything in the downloads but there will be something in the permits link.
If all you have is the map and parcel number it gets harder. You need a copy of the tax map. You can order one from the county assessor’s office. Then go here WV OOG well map
and zoom in to the area, and if you know the geography you can maybe match up the tax map location with the online map, etc.
I think there is a service, expensive, that matches these things up. For awhile a few years ago the WV OOG map showed the parcel lines but then they stopped. Not sure why. Wish they would do it again. They have precise location for the wells. Some of the tax maps have been digitalized, and I think eventually all of WV will have that done.
With another company for an old well, sometimes I get a deposit in the bank and the next day an email, or if they use a service like OilDex and have told you that, maybe you just need to go there (website) with your owner number. The most important part is the money, payment for your products, but it is also quite important to know how they determined it. And yes, for those of us (most or maybe all of us here) who inherited mineral rights, Thanks Ancestors, for retaining something for your children. As my aunt used to say when she received a check, “thank you Grandpa”. And thank God for letting us be around when the time is here to tap into those resources.
Darin, You should see something today or tomorrow.
LOL, thanks Arnold. Every website needs a little suspense every now and then!!

Jacqueline- what I do is take the well API number, and find it here:
http://downloads.wvgs.wvnet.edu/BatchInfo/doddridge/
Then open up it’s plat file- it’s in PDF format. It shows you which tracts the well passes through. Then I take my tax map with parcel numbers on it and find the appropriate tracts associated with my rights.
Nancy Mosley was so gracious to share this site, and knows all the tricks to find things! I’m sure there’s a better way, but that’s what I do!
Jacqueline, Nancy: Once a permit is issued that I have interest in, I don’t stop there, I wait a short time, then I get into the telephone book, look up folks that have interest on my pad that might still be living in that area and call them, you would be surprised at how many new friends I have met by doing that, but really, the bottom line is INFO, has the ground breaking for pad begun, have they started drilling yet, have they fracked, do they know if product has gone to sales, etc, etc. Since I live 2200 miles away it’s the only way that I know of to keep up with status, besides that, you know that by this time the landman that you signed the lease with is long gone.
Applause Darin! No idea what happened to the statements. Must be a glitch! But many congratulations:)
Well said, Nancy. It is fortunate that the timing is such that we can benefit in this current generation. And I believe that other layers below the Marcellus will continue to provide for our offspring for many many years! To me, it’s all about the kids- that’s why I am so determined to make sure these title issues are fixed!
I concur and humbly, I might add. I am amazed that a desired legacy passed down from our forebearers is now being fulfilled. Truly grateful for it:)
Arnold, that’s really resourceful! And Darin, that is good to know! I also found out that they pay oil royalties 1 month in arrears and gas royalties 3 months in arrears.
