Go to the above and put in Doddridge county. If you are interested in a name or district, put that in to search.

Robin, I have been having big trouble getting these folks to call me back as well. And I have had many conversations with them!!! Not sure what is going on out there. Here is their main number 303-357-7310. Maybe call them and tell them that you have been calling and no one will call you back.

So, I have one day to spend in Doddridge County. What should I do?

I’ve been leaving messages at the Antero hotline number that Jacqueline Gum posted, and no one calls me back. I always get a voice message. Has anyone had any luck with this?

In November, someone called me back immediately. Now, crickets from Antero. The last thing Lauren told me is that they would be mailing checks in June…I don’t see anything…

Stephanie, They only issue checks on the 1st of each month. If you didn’t get anything in June, it will be July 1 before a check is mailed or deposited into your account, if you chose ACH. Last month, they made a big time error in my royalties. Still, they are making me wait a whole month for the correction. We’ll see… sigh

Jacqueline,

Price makes sense for the ups and downs. Those are annual production numbers.

I have to look to see who actually died in Doddridge County. I think I have to go back to GGGrandfather before that happens. I think most everyone else scattered after that.

Here is a link to a discussion talking about price fluctuations, and how producers sometimes lower production when prices are low to save resources.

Discussion on prices

Maybe you should ask the guy who said it on that discussion link Jim. I just wrote Philip and he responded right away. But I think he was saying that this is a line that the folks buying mineral interests now are likely to tell you, but he says not to believe them.

Thanks Jacqueline. I guess, I will be making some phone calls on Monday.

I posted a picture. Why would gas production jump up and down like that?

Don’t know specifically but sometimes an old well that doesn’t produce much gets reworked, whatever that involves, and production jumps after that. Maybe no production while being reworked. Might involve well work, replacing pipes or something. If there is house gas involved, free gas for the domestic use of someone living on the surface, like a farmer, that gas isn’t metered so it looks like less. Maybe if farmer stops using the gas the numbers jump up a little. Maybe no good reason.

Also important to remember that it is the producer (actually the operator which might be a different entity) who reports the production numbers to the state and to the royalty owner. Can be difficult to get independent confirmation of those numbers. In other words, these might not be accurate by accident or otherwise.

And to your comment earlier today, StephanieP, about if you have just one day in the county: in Doddridge, since the old records are not online, I think If I had any kind of transfer to do (somebody dies, paperwork has to be filed) I would at least talk to the county clerk’s office about that, then the assessor. Then I think I would go to the records room, having done as much online as possible ahead of time, and look at old documents, look in the indexes as needed, write down what records I want copies of, take pictures of the index pages of my family name (names) for future reference, and either leave with copies, or leave a check and some information as to which deeds etc you want copied.

If you have more time, and have a well to visit, try to get a county road map to use.

I haven’t tried to enlarge or print the maps but you can see things there.

I think if you are going to visit your wells (or if no wells, your mineral rights acreage) you need to get permission from the surface owner. Not sure but I think so. Certainly could make things smoother.

Also if you have family buried there, it would be good to visit the cemetery. But priority I think is the records room. If all the old records were at least viewable online that would be different.

If you have enough lead time, the Doddridge Historical Society (may not be the exact name) might have publications. I know the Ritchie one has a cemetery index, a big book. I have several ancestors in it, and need to visit more than I have already. There is some good genealogy website for Doddridge that might have helpful links. If you are like me, you are already planning your second trip even though you haven’t had the first one yet! More to do that time to do it.

For you, I just remembered: look at the land books, in the assessor’s office, and see how your property came down through the years (by district, then by name. Transfers are recorded, as are leases (in Ritchie anyway) and maybe wells. I think that would be quite informative for your situation.

Stephanie, regarding your screen shot…I also think that the oil/gas companies ratchet down production when market prices are so low. And they are really low now. The difference in production numbers in my royalty statements was remarkable from April to May. But the good news it, it may take longer for those wells to deplete. I’m not sure where you are going in Doddridge, but the cemetery where my dad is buried is in Salem - Mt. Olive Cemetary and it’s good some great old stones there. But Nancy has the very best suggestions - I intend to do a few of those myself:)

What exactly does “Marcellus is indefinitely shut down” mean?

As always, Nancy, you are a girl after my heart!

I messaged one owner today, I am digging around to see if I can find the other. I was just trying to figure out how to find a road in the county! Thanks for the map!

I have a partial list, most important is the original lease from circa 1904.

I had not thought of cemetery. That is a great one!

Nancy that is probably the best discussion link I’ve seen pertaining to the wacky production numbers. Thanks so much for posting that.
