Jacqueline Gum, sorry I meant early 1900’s.
WV Blue…I honestly don’t know! But I would assume so. I am going to the Gum reunion this July 17th, so I guess I might find out then!
Thanks, WV Blue and sorry to be so long to respond. The written data that I have from my family Shows Preston and Charles Gumdoff came to High Town VA from Holland. Part of the family remained in VA , newly renamed Gumm. Henry Harrison (born 1837) moved over the mountains by covered wagon and renamed his family Gum. He settled and built a log cabin on Robert’s Fork in Doddridge County. This is the branch of the family of which I am descended. I hope to learn more at the reunion this year! Thanks for the inofrmation!!!
Arnold, I think everything is screwed up right now and I agree that these nice folks are becoming a tad less nice. Sorry, but I feel they are making it harder than it has to be and partially because there is such a lack of transparency that they seem to be fostering distrust. I think that they should launch their own mineral rights owner website so they can publicly display information, updates and we can check what’s going on without having to call or email. These last royalty statements are crazy! This, we are told, is due to a change in accounting software. And a lot of them in my family have been dead wrong. Sigh…
Arnold, on a happier note, I saw your name on a permit on this week’s Weekly Reports. Maybe someday this decade you’ll get payment on it haha
@Stephenie, it was my experience that the longer it takes for family members to find out they have mineral rights their share gets smaller and smaller as their family grows. This gives all the leverage to the landman and gas co when it comes to negotiating for price, most people aren’t going to spend the time to even research if told by the landman they only own a small share. The title should be changed with deaths just as surface rights do and people should be notified.
Jacqueline: You are so right about the lack of transparency with Antero, You have a great suggestion.
To all: Things are really slowing down in Denver, I was told two weeks ago that the D.O for the Piggot Wells would be out within a week, called today to check and was told > YOU WILL GET THE D,O. WHEN I SEND IT OUT AND NOT BEFORE “WOW”. She said that because of a change in a numbering system, D.O" are now out several weeks. Usually the people in Denver are at least polite, but this person really has a chip on her shoulder.
Nancy, yes I seen it and you are right, I’am eighty might never see it, but on the good note, hopefully my kids will.
“They say” that things should pick up in 2016, so probably permits already issued will be drilled before they expire (2 years?) Keep our fingers crossed.
Part of the strategy for keeping as much money as possible is to keep the mineral rights owners guessing as long and as much as possible. The more confused they are the better. Our only hope is to keep poking back to get it answers when we ask for them.
Well said Stephanie P!
Great point Stephanie.
It is up to US to educate our kids on what this all means- sit down at the dinner table and go through it all!! My parents didn’t exactly do that with me, but I’m curious enough to go digging on my own. I’ll make sure that my kids know what’s at stake.
Hi Christina and welcome! Lots of nice folks here and it’s good of you to join us:) Maybe the first step is to call Antero and ask the status of your lease. They have a hotline (303) 357-6405 and are located in Colorado. Do you know the location of the property they have leased from you? The link Nancy provided will be a big help.

Hello. This is my 1st post. Signed lease with Antero over yr ago. Property in Doddridge. I have heard nothing. Is this typical? I am receiving letters from Recon, Aegis & others about buying my mineral rights. I am truly confused.
Antero has a lot of acreage, and they have a drilling plan the probably will get to you at some point. From what I have read, they have slowed their drilling down due to lower prices for oil and gas but keep on drilling.
There are a lot of companies and individuals wanting to buy oil and gas rights, leased or not. They must have some economic reason to want these properties, so your property has good value.
If you know where your property is, you can go here and zoom in and find it, and see if you see any orange lines coming out from a red star-like thing. Those orange lines are horizontal wells, and the red stars are the well pads. The orange lines aren’t exact.
If you get that far, there are other things to do to pinpoint where the wells are, and see how close your porperty is compared to the nearby wells. There are plenty of people here who can help you start to figure this out.
Speaking of taxes, a delinquent tax list is published for Doddridge County for 2014 in the Doddridge Independent, might be some good deals there, if one is in to such things.
Has anyone received their tax bill? It is getting to be that time of year?
July. First week of July I think. That will come soon enough!
