that recently made an offer to me for rights in Lavaca told me they're planning to assign

Started leasing with landman rep for Aubrey Oil & Gas back in 2005, ConocoPhillips Philips bought that lease, and in 20 released to Penn Virginia. (PVA) our property is between Moulton & Shiner, 2 mi east of Hwy 95. I pleased with PVA. Hope this helps. Private message me for additional info.
