My daughter inherited mineral rights of section121, block 2, abstract 126 in Fisher county. It may still be under mineral rights lease agreement with Gunn Oil. But got an offer from Norwood Land Services of $350 per mineral acre lease bonus; 3 year contract with 2 year option to renew at same bonus; 20% of oil and gas produced. First question, why would Norwood make an offer if Its still under lease with Gunn oil? Is Norwood offer a good deal for this area? Do you know of any drilling/activity in this area? I understand they just vertical drill, but do they fracture in this area? Thank you!
The part of the Railroad Commission’s online map below has Sec. 121/Abstract 126 outlined in red.
RRC shows Gunn Oil completed four vertical Palo Pinto wells in Sec. 121 in 2013-14 that are still producing. If the interest your daughter inherited was included in one or more of those producing units then her acreage would be held by production.
If that’s right, the lease offer from Norwood that you mentioned could be aimed at top leasing her interest, meaning their new lease would go into effect. if and when, the existing lease terminates. Why don’t you ask the landman who contacted her if they have researched the status of your daughter’s interest, or try contacting Gunn.
On your question about activity in that area, RRC records show a few months ago Gunn obtained a drilling permit to recomplete one of their Section 121 wells that’s called the Grunden GC #1. It was originally completed at 6000’ and they apparently plan to redrill it to max of 9000’. Might be another reason to see what you can learn from Gunn Oil.
The closest horizontal drilling appears to be about 5 miles west, on the other side of Rotan. A partnership between Browning Oil and Clearfork has drilled one horizontal Wolfcamp well there and have three more permitted. It’s part of what they are calling Project Hermleigh that covers parts of Fisher and Scurry County. Here is a link where you can listen to a presentation Browning made on the project. Thank you very much Dusty!
