Looked in my file 13, Linda, just to clarify and the offer was actually from Citation not Cimarex and it was $24K for 6 acres so I guess that’s about 4K per acre and those are several really old wells that have been producing very consistently since the 40’s. I’m going to take a look at your Stephens Co info. I think my cousins who still live in the Foster area are related to the Keck’s on their mom’s side of the family. I remember visiting them when I was younger.
Welcome to the Mineral Rights and Genealogy Forum
JUST KIDDING Linda!
Hutch! What happened to Jed Clampett?? lol
Vicki, Preston said there was a Ferguson man that married his aunt Shirley Keck’s sister. Shirley was an aunt by marriage to his Uncle Marvin Keck. So that Ferguson wouldn’t actually be married to a Keck. Shirley’s maiden name was Adams, I believe. Does any of that sound familiar? No comment, Jed!!! lol
Vicki, Shirley and Marvin have both been passed on for quite a few years now but they did live in the area of old Doyle/Foster. One of their sons Donnie Keck (the one that did own several car dealerships ) is now living on Clearcreek down that way and his wife’s name is Linda, too. So there are a couple of us Linda Kecks running around these parts. We are close to the same age too! Our dentist office at Marlow called us here while back and was trying to charge us for a bill of hers as they had us mixed up. Just so happened she had had nearly the same kind of work done as I did but I had paid cash for mine and her insurance paid most of hers and it was a few months later and they wanted me to pay the rest. BUT, we got it all straightened out and had a good laugh out of it. lol So, Hutch, you can add “Medical Journal” to forum! lol
1st Linda-I believe my aunt’s maiden name was Adams, but wouldnt bet my lease on it. Her name is Opal Fay. Does the name Goodrich sound familiar? I definitely remember Donnie’s name after you mentioned it. We are all in our 50’s now. Does that sound about right for Donnie? My cousins names are Danny, Dwain, & Dale Ferguson. 2nd- Dave & Daniel, thanks for your info. Even if they hold to any depth w/production, a new well or zone would be more than welcome, lease bonus or not. I guess my question continues to be: Is Sec 2 1S 4W in the SCOOP and more specifically in what I am hearing some people call the “sweet spot”? I have seen some maps but they are too fuzzy for me to read the sections. I know it’s that and has nothing to do with my vision-or lack thereof. lol
Vicki, Donnie was the middle child. He’s 65 I believe (was always a good looking guy like a taller Tom Cruise). His younger sister Sue would probably be pushing 60. (I’ve been told she has cancer). Know the name Goodrich well (I knew Morris Goodrich and Preston knew them all). Opal Fay sounds very familiar but I didn’t know them. I’ll ask when P. gets home. Now that we’ve had “Old Home Week” I’ll try to stay on the Mineral Rights subject but those guys on here know how hard that is for me! lol
Thanks for the input Hutch. Keep me posted if you will and Linda and I will try to stick to the business at hand. lol. Sure would like to have a map of Stephens and Garvin Co that I can read as I have several locations in Garvin that leased back in the spring, i.e., 17 2N 3W, 32 2N 3W. Just received DO from Newfield this morning on Williams1H-19. Woo-hoo! Better get em signed and returned
Here are all the county maps of Oklahoma. Just scroll down and select which county you are interested in. The are 2003 Oklahoma DOT maps.

Like a lot of maps the sections are listed in each corner of the township/range.
If there is no DEPTH Clause in the lease, the company hold the current lease can drill to any depth.
That’s what I have been looking for Daniel. Thanks so much. I struggled with the sections but I think I figured it out. Those are so helpful. Thanks again.
As said before the 2-1S-4W is in the scoop.
We have some in areas close to yours but have not seen any activity. Our lease in section 6 is about to expire (I hope it does) and we leased a few others within 2-3 miles. I’m surprised we have not seen any activity in 1N-4W yet and thought we would see it there before 1S-4W. Still a bit of leasing going on.
Vicki…Are ya’ll related to B.T. and Jana Ferguson? (His mom’s name was Christine, I believe). They are good friends of ours that we went to school with. Jana also taught our sons in school. They now live in Tishomingo.
I believe the rig that they moved off of the Williams is the rig that drilled our well on the Branch. Did they drill the Williams from across the highway 29 maybe in Section 18?
It was brought up at the NARO convention last week. production costs mainly. They recommended close scrutiny or sending back a NADOA DO form instead. In researching several of our properties I’m finding DO that have been marked up by the attorney or a replacement form was submitted so the issue has been going on for several years.
We are all learning. That is what makes these forums so valuable.
Here is a link to the public land survey system that will explain it a bit better

All, with the exception of the panhandle, of Oklahoma is divided by townships using the 1870 base line and the Indian Meridian. So if you say section 2 – Township 1S – Range 4W Indian Meridian, the county does not even need to be mentioned. There will be a few sections that will have more than one county ownership, but it is rare and usually where a river sets the border.
I’m not in the business. I have been doing tons of research in the business since I have taken over managing the family’s interests. I just have a bit more knowledge than the average mineral owner and continue to try to work on adding to that. Who knows, I might end up in the business as retirement from my regular job gets closer.
Thanks Rick. How can I watch for this to see when they do? They sent a letter back in July stating they were going to drill, we just don’t know when. Does the OCC post this info on a website?
Received letter, today, from Newfield Lawyer stating the Newfield Pooling Order for Sec. 28 3N 4W has been continued from Nov. 5th 2012 to Nov. 13th 2012
Grew up eating at Folger’s. How funny. When did you graduate high school? If I’m not being too nosey. My mom does/did know them personally as she was born in Ada.
What’s your point Lynden?
Yes, just confirmed by husband’s brother that Shirley Keck’s sister was indeed Opal Fay Ferguson so we’re not related but “kin to kin”! Close enough for government work as Hutch and Preston says. lol I guess they warned you on here that if you start getting in a lot of oil money that the relatives will come out of the woodwork so “hi cousin Vicki” lol
Vicki, 1S/4W is in the Scoop. The heavy activity right now is in 2N/4W which is 12-18 miles north of your section. 4w is on the Stephens Co. east county line and runs the entire length from N to S and according to the Scoop map all that area is included. As the area developes I expect the action will move that way.
