My wife and her two sisters recently inherited 1/12 each of mineral rights on 14 acres in Lea County New Mexico. Their uncle owns the other 3/4 of the minerals. The uncle has leased his rights to an oil company but that company is not interested in leasing the sisters rights at this time. The company plans to drill a well later this year. My question: Can the oil company drill a well without the sisters signing a lease for their rights?
