Do producing oil wells, (in Texas), pump out oil 24 hours a day or just 8 hours a day?.
Each well is different, depending on the characteristics of the reservoir it is pumping from. Some reservoirs don’t have enough fluid to pump 24/7. The operator will put the pump on a timer to allow fluid to build up between pumping sessions. If a well pumps without enough fluid in the well-bore, the rods and other equipment overheats and can be damaged.
