We have been approached by another oil company in another county regarding other mineral interests we did not know we had. How do we go about finding out if there are any other interests that we may be entitled to? These two came from deceased relatives 3 generations back. My brother and I are now the only living heirs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If your relatives estates were probated, ask the Landman that contacted you to give you the book and page where the minerals are located, then you can get the records from the Payne County Court Recorders Office in Stillwater, OK by calling and paying for copies. Also, you can search using your legal description here: http://24.173.220.139/payne/HomePage.aspx?ID=Payne
If your relatives estates were not probated, you will need to hire an attorney to complete the probate process providing you clear title to the minerals. It is very important to have clear title. The attorney can get a landman to research the records. Gather all the documents and information about your deceased relatives, ie probate records, wills, birth and death certificates, marriage licenses and divorces, list of heirs, where they lived and may have owned land and/or businesses, etc. as it will help the landman's search and reduce the cost of the attorney's billed hours. Also, you may have royalty proceeds held in suspense with Oklahoma Unclaimed Property and will need to legally prove your heirship ownership before they will release any proceeds and/or properties.
