Hello All!
I need to find out if a land plot has been explored for oil, gas or any minerals in Weld County Colorado. I have copies of the Warrantee deed, and the land coordinates, but it might as well be written in Latin as I cannot decipher the area.
How do I discover if there has been any exploration and if there continues to be a well or anything on this plot of land?
Our family has severed rights and all the documents stating such.
Any help would be appreciated!
Guy
Guy you might start by posting the legal information such as section, township and range. You can also search the COGCC web site http://cogcc.state.co.us/ for that information. My sugestion is to share the legal info and someone can take a quick look for you.

Mr. Jenkins, since you do not seem to be looking for the most up to date information but the history, Eser.org will probably be of use to you. When you find your legal description you will see wells past, plugged, present and permits for wells if any, just remember that the data is up to a year out of date. It may take some effort to learn to use but I think you will find it useful.
Thanks so much for the information. I will post the information that I have.
The Warrantee Deed states that it is:
Lots three and four, and the East Half of the Southwest Quarter, and the South Half of the South East Quarter, All in Section Thirty(30) Township (9) Range (56) West Containing 240 Acres According to plat thereof.
The Grantor does hereby reserve 6 1/4 (Six and One Quarter),of oil and gas and right in above premises. (equal to 1/16th royalty)
( this deed is subject to a five year lease on above premises)
Thanks again for your assistance!
Guy,
Cursory information shows that 2 wells were permitted in the SW/4 probably back in the 80's and 90's. The permits were apparently not drilled. A dry hole was drilled in the SE/4 most likely to the Codell as there is a Codell formation oil and gas field in the next section to the East. Those wells are shown to be "shut in" since the mid ninety's.
The good news is that the Niobrara formation was encountered in drilling and may be prospective in the future.
The potentially bad news is that you may only have a royalty interest under an old expired lease according to the limited information you provided. Read the reservations in the deed very carefully to see if your royalty interest or mineral interest survived the lease. That will be key to your potential in the area.

Guy, a quick look at the COGCC map shows that there are 4 verticle Wells in section 30, T9N, R56W. I am not sure where lots 3 and 4 are exactly. There is one Well in the E 1/2 of the SW 1/4. The spud date is 1990 and it is non producing. There is one Well in the S 1/2 of the SE 1/4 of that section; the spud date is 1952 and it is abandoned. That is not to say that there is no oil there. There is activity to the West and in Section 29. Have a look at the web site I posted. Good luck...
