My sister and I inherited our father’s LLC (oil and gas royalties and some minerals in 8 states including Wyoming). Using an attorney, we equally divided all assets and transferred them to our own LLCs. The attorney said we needed to register our Colorado LLCs with a WY registered agent, get a certificate of good standing from WY and pay a WY annual report filing fee. Is this normal? No other state requires such a process.
In order to register a foreign (out of state) LLC in another state it is normal to require a resident service agent in the additional state.
We live in TX and have minerals all over the west. We have an LLC and also have to file in most of the those states. We have a resident agent in those states. Very common.
