Land Sold, trying to reclaim it, WV

Hello, My family has interest in Mineral rights in WV. doddridge county. the land has been in the family since 1903. A portion was passed on to parents, my siblings and I had no idea we had mineral rights in WV. the land was sold due to non-payment of taxes. the state said they did try to contact my mother before her death. She was suffering from dementia and no doubt they contacted her while she was sick.

The state of WV is allowing us to buy it back after filling out some paperwork and paying fees and back taxes. My siblings and I are looking to buy it back.
The form is ratehr simple but includes some sections that I am unsure how to fill them out correctly. we do not have a mineral rights attorney.

id appreciate any help than can be given. we are in CA. the land is in WV. we want to do this right to reclaim our mineral rights.

The West Virginia Bar Association has a lawyer referral service that you can use to find a suitable attorney. Here is a link to their website:

My husband also inherited mineral rights in WV that we had no idea about. (We are in Idaho) I had a chance to speak to an attorney’s office in WV.

CALL: KYLE NUTTALL 304-473-1403. I got his number from the directory here and every one in his office was very helpful & calmed me down .

It might be possible that the State leased them since they were taken from your Mother. I would check on the entire history of what has taken place since that time. It might depend upon the number of acres she had and her net. mineral acres and so on. Good Luck.
