My cousins and I own The mineral rights for several sections (164/166) in Yoakum county. It has not been leased for the last few years. Does anyone have any advice on how to get your property leased? Is there anything an owner can do or do you have to just wait and hope somebody wants to lease your property. Thank you in advance for any advice.
I was told that as long as Biden was in office they would not lease the mineral rights. So now I wonder what will happen now that Trump will be in starting in January.
Agents will lease if operators are interested in the the economic potential reservoirs in an area. No reservoirs, no leasing… Make sure that your name and address and any title documents are properly filed in the county courthouse where you own minerals. If they cannot find you, they cannot lease from you.
You can look up your area on the Texas Railroad Commission GIS map to see if there is activity nearby. You will need your Block, Abstract and Section.
You won’t find much traction trying to appeal to oil and gas companies to lease your land. If they think oil is there, they will reach out to you at some point.
Other than making sure County deed records include the information a landman would need if they wanted to contact you, there’s not much you can do to encourage leasing. Stay current on leasing activity through CourthouseDirect’s free LeaseAlerts and Yoakum County drilling permit filings on RRC’s online system and you’ll know when something is headed your direction.
I do hope the energy sector rebounds under our new administration!
