Logan County, OK - Oil & Gas Discussion archives

Tim, You are right that working for BP colored my perspective. That and the fact that I was a bachelor until I was in my 40’s. I was as redneck as they come until I settled down. My first inclination is to fight injustice as I see it, but I don’t have the time anymore. As mineral owners we have the system stacked against us, the state and oil companies will produce our minerals whether we like it or not. I guess all we can negotiate is the terms. I would love to change the rules. But I have about given up.

Leon, think that one flew right over their heads! Lol

I was curious if there is any way to obtain a educated guess or information on how long a well in the woodford should last, also future plans of drilling in our sections, for instance the perforations run along the west side of my section and the BH is in southwest corner. Will they do another well on the east side of the section or try different formations? Is there maybe access to a drilling program with the companies in our area maybe? It seems that pretty much 90% of the section I’m in has been left at this point. Devon has all the leases in my area.

Nothing wrong with a little Scot whisky, and I never heard of a Scot drinking too much of it, Robert, but we can stomach it a lot better than any Irishman.

To those unable to get to Martha’s link, it reads, in part,

"Starting Sunday, operators in the Bakken tight-oil play must tell North Dakota regulators how they plan to sell natural gas from each one of their wells in the US state as part of a broad effort to reduce high levels of flaring that have made the sparsely populated area visible from space."

Sir Ron,

We Irish gave you Scots the kilt and the bagpipes, but you never did get the joke…

Kaye, A liberal dose of conservation can be nonproductive. ; )

Exxon to full out blast the Bakken. The Anadarko basin isn’t as deep as the Williston basin, but it covers much of OK and will be heavily blasted too.

Here’s the reports http://www.ogs.ou.edu/pubsscanned/Circulars/Circular90.pdf

Kaye, I didn’t know oil and gas could be so much fun! I spent years working myself to death to find oil/gas and Obama can (and probably will) write a book about the stuff after spending 2 minutes with the Koch brothers. LOL!

Ron, your right about the operators. Some companies make a lot of money, but MANY MANY companies and individuals that invest in the O&G biz lose everything. It is a high stakes came & the smallest miscalculation can be the deciding factor between bankruptcy & a fortune. I don’t feel sorry for them when they lose because that is part of the game, but I don’t resent them when they hit it big either.

Ron and Myranda, Here’s a very long compilation of reports about the Anadarko basin. In the interest of your time and sanity, just look at page 35 (shows as pg 40 on computer screen) - the map shows Logan county 0.40 - 0.55 which means it’s in the immature oil window and should not produce commercial oil. However, go to pg 274 (pg 271 on screen) and read where it is in fact immature, but they have found that the mature oil migrates up from the Anadarko basin from the southwest into Logan county. Also, if you read everything you will find that the Anadarko basin is a gas driven basin which is very deep, but Logan county isn’t deep. Therefore, they found they can cost effectively drill shallow in an immature area and ‘continuously’ get mature production of not only oil, but hydrocarbon liquids and gas too. Note: These reports are directly responsible for the drilling you were witnessing today.

What can I say, Robert, out of all of my kin in the Arbuthnot clan of Scotland, and all of my Scot friends and there are many, I do not think I have ever heard any of them laugh. (I am the onliest one.)

You are also right Myranda, I do not feel sorry for them either.

Martha, lol! You might want to pass that one by me once again to make sure that I have a clear picture of your intent!

Big profits coming for oil companies like Devon, as the price of West Texas Intermediate crude (WTI) is holding above $100.00 per barrel. Also, Devon is internationally positioned to reap the benefits lower Brent crude prices making US exporting competitive with other major international oil producers. It’s a win-win for Devon (DVN). http://marketrealist.com/2014/06/wti-discount-brent-closes-wider/

Continuous petroleum accumulation (oil migrating from Anadarko basin) can last for many decades, as long as there is continuous drilling, re-fracking, and then some type of enchanced recovery like CO 2 injecting and waterflooding to re-pressurize. http://www.oxy.com/OurBusinesses/OilAndGas/Technology/Pages/Enhance…

Houston is booming and the port hasn’t even started exporting US oil. Get ready for decades of fracking…

“The Panama Canal expansion will drastically change U.S. commerce, bringing five times as many exports through the Port of Houston by the year 2035.”

“International trade via seaports accounts for more than 32 percent of the U.S. GDP; that value is expected to increase to the equivalent of 37 percent by 2015 and 60 percent by 2030.”

HOUSTON, June 3 (Reuters) - Continental Resources has asked the U.S. government for a permit to export crude oil it produces in North Dakota and hopes approvals will be granted for the industry as a whole, a company executive said on Tuesday. (6/3/2014)

How long do they expect these horizontal wells to last in Logan county?
