I have been getting calls and letters all summer about buying my mineral rights in McKenzie and Williams counties. This is after years of hearing almost nothing. Many of these offers are from companies I have never heard of, but others are from companies that have made ridiculous offers in the past and I won’t deal with (or who don’t offer direct deposit and like to mail my checks 60-90 days after the date of the checks). Similarly, my sister gets calls and offers even though she has hung up on these people after repeatedly telling them she has no interest in selling. I half suspect they call her because they know they won’t get my signature. Same with my aunt. What part of “no” don’t they understand? Does anyone have a sense of what is driving this push? I see some activity on the ND Oil site, but nothing which justifies this?
I don’t know and I’m getting the sqme offers. They are better than they used to be but not much. My interests getting offers are in 146,98. And there is no history of production there worth speaking off. I’ve been trying to find info but no luck so far. We should all be looking for what is going on. thanks
Yeah, it is a mystery. Of course, I only hear from these companies when there is new drilling or about to be new drilling. One company has this ridiculous cover letter stating that the oil industry is fading away, that prices are not what they once were, that they aren’t going to make any money if they buy my interest, that they are experts on making tax laws to make the investments profitable, etc., but that they are magnanimously going to make me an offer anyway because they are such generous guys. At the same time, they post advertisements on Facebook for investment returns as high as 19%. The incongruity is stunning.
Do you check the daily activity reports and search the hearing docket on the ND OIL and gas site? Thats the only way i can keep ahead of them and the only purchase offers we receive are for those they plan to drill.

Out of curiosity, ridiuclous offeres as in high or low offers? You state that they like to mail your checks 60-90 days late, Im assuming thats for production? Its rather standard in the industry to pay 2-3 months behind on production payments, ie on October 1, youre likely paid for July or August production numbers. But it seems like youre talking about mineral buyers? Not sure why youd bring up direct deposit and time in which they pay if youve never sold and wont sell? If your whole point was to see whats going on around the acreage that you own, if you provide your legals, someone on here can help you out regarding current filings in the area. It’s safe to say theres a rig or 2 in the area and they might be drilling new horizontals or possibly drilling another well on your existing hbp acreage. Or they could just be pulling all data in the area, doing mass mailers and theres no future activity on your sections. If it were me, Id just call or email the person that works the area sending me letters to figure it out.
I don’t think you have read my comment carefully.
Ridiculous as in ridiculously low.
Late checks means not the typical lag between production and payment, but actual checks dated in December of one year, but not mailed (per postmark) until much later.
I brought up direct deposit and late payment because I have a property under lease with this particular company and they have made me offers to purchase and or lease on other properties. Sometimes, I do lease, but I don’t sell.
When I ask some of these people questions, they are often non-responsive or just lie. I have stopped asking questions and now do my own investigation.
If Im reading correctly, your main issue is with direct deposit and a certain company that continues to try and lease you and/or buy your minerals? So, what are you actually investigating and have you provided the company with your findings?
