I’ve inherited some mineral leases from my mother, Aunt, and grandfather. I’m getting paid on some of these leases. I am not getting paid on other leases as the wells are plugged, abandoned, not producing, whatever. After poking around for well over a year I still have many questions. I won’t ask all of them at this time. My grandfather, A H Richards, is probably the original source for all of these leases. He was an oil field geologist in the 1930’s (or even earlier) through the 1960s based out of Oklahoma, but ventured into Texas too.
- How do I find his original deed where he got some percentage or maybe all of the mineral rights for a particular area?
- How do I find the original deed for a particular area and the trail that leads to Granddad?
- How do I determine that the royalty I am getting is correct? As far as I can see, they can say whatever they want is my share.
- How do I determine if I really should getting royalties from other wells in the same area, but nothing is showing up, and the company in question has never sent division orders? For example, I have a very small piece of the Harris 1-17WH well in Logan County, OK at Sec 17, 17N 04W SW SW SW SW and have been getting money from the operator. There is another well in that location, Norwood 1 operated by Oil Investors Inc. I have never heard anything from them. Should I contact them and tell them they should be paying me?
I have no idea if I am even asking the right questions.
