Someone several months ago posted books that might help with legal issues and leasing mineral rights ,I have searched many links can’t seem to find I wrote down the book that was suggested then accidently threw it away. Thanks, rebecca
The legal issues will depend upon the individual state law, but an overall good short book is called “Look before you Lease” by Jim Stafford. Available through the National Association of Royalty Owners and also sometimes on Amazon.
A more detailed book is called Oil and Gas Law in a Nutshell. The 7th edition is out. James S. Lowe.
If you have legal issues, always a good idea to consult with an oil and gas attorney for your particular issues in your particular state.
Thanks for your help, I looked up donley’s text but way to difficult to find. I inherited gas and oil leases in W.Va. not many people in my family can give me clear information. So right now I am just receiving small royalty checks from various companies and will research on my own at a later time. It was very challenging just to get the name changed from my deceased parents to mine ,I can’t imagine what it will be like for my daughter.
Several of the business folks listed in the Directories tab above are knowledgeable about WV. They may be able to point you to more useful state info.
Also, look on the state oil and gas commission website. They may have some information.
You can plan for your daughter’s transfer by getting good legal help to take care of that issue in your will or trust.
