Minerals near Imperial, TX

Hello all,

Are minerals worth looking into in the northern part of the county? I am looking at some land around $1000/acre (roughly 60 acres) and the owner claims the minerals come with it. I will obviously be confirming that.

Looking on RRC GIS, I only see older wells in the area that are shallow. The bigger operators like COG, Diamondback, and XTO are in the more southern part of the county - closer to Ft Stockton. Is the northern part of the county considered played out? Are operators leasing land in the Imperial area? If so, what’s a rough number for NMA?

Thanks in advance.

There was a ton of activity in Pecos County near imperial as early as 1920. It depends on where you are, but some of that acreage in Pecos was developed by wildcatters who helped name the streets in Midland.

There are some records at some of the libraries. There are rumors that horizontals may be coming. There are rumors that CO2 sequestration may be coming. I don’t know if there is still oil there or not. That’s a question for an appraiser.
