I have ownership of property of 4 generations that was passed down to me about 8 years ago and am remembering something about mineral rights…once I wrote down Sunoco Partners Mktg & Terminal, LP as the company paying mineral rights to my granddad and my dad, then to my brother. I am wondering how to find out if I’ve been missing money or have monies I can claim that have not been collected at least since my father’s death in 2000. Cornelius Robinson Estate, Matagorda County, Bay City, Texas property.
First thing you can do is check the state unclaimed funds website. Next you’ll need to figure out abstract block and section numbers of any properties you have an interest in to see if there is production there. Then call the operators of any producing wells you have an interest in and ask them what you need to do to get into pay status with them.
a few thoughts
(a) as @steveco mentioned, check the texas missing money website
Texas’ Official Unclaimed Property Site - Texas Comptroller - Texas.gov
(b) check the county appraiser. if you own the minerals, then you’d have been paying property taxes. the county website should show this ownership. most counties have free access and you can simply search for your name.
(c) I believe Sunoco Partners is a payor, rather than an operator. You could call them and see if they have any record of past payments. if you could get an old paystub, it would have the well or unit tract that your dad / grandad was being paid on.
(d) there are a couple of websites that you can search for deeds in the state of texas. they will typically allow a free search, but charge by the page for downloads.
texasfile.com is one. I don’t recall the other one.
