Haven’t seen much about any activity in Mitchell County lately. Have things ground completely to a halt? Don
Morning Everyone! Some updates for you since Mr. Everett didn’t take care of HIS MOST IMPORTANT WORK while I was out of town…
There is a new rig north of Loraine, looks to be in the same vicinity as the others had been, this is Laredo’s horizontal drill as a follow up to their science wells.
Devon’s rig moved in to the Scharlach location and is up and running. Sure looks pretty at night.
That’s about all, from my little corner of the earth, where there were no cataclysmic events on the 21st of December.
Carol, I will check out the Texas Drilling Observer, my brother Urda told me about that too. Bill says you can get a trial subscription.
Also, Buddy Cotten on MRF has a county specific newsletter which would be good to subscribe to since activity is beginning to pick up. I like Buddy’s posts and his style of writing. Buddy is to oil and gas what Baxter Black is to livestock.
You bet, George. New friendships forged through communicating on this site, that has given me a lot of enjoyment, and reconnecting with friends from the past (Clay S., Alan M., the Inmans).
Diana, my MRF friend, stay in perspective, don’t get down. 19 permits on the RRC site since October 11th, 10 of those in December. Permits in December include the Snyder lease in the extreme W part of the county, the Strain lease 17 mi NW of C City, and the Morris lease 8 mi W of C City, and Sharp’s permit on the Connelly lease (i didn’t look to see where that one is). All deep wells. AND Mr. Purvis has another prospective well permitted on the Red Angus lease, so he is evidently having a successful venture.
As I understand it, the plan was to poke some holes all around the county, try to define the field, which is what is taking place, maybe a little behind schedule, but it is happening.
Remember what I told you about it being an underground savings account? That’s how you have to look at it.
I wish the best for all of you too, and that you have a joyous Christmas with safe travel.
second that sentiment. this new world of minersl rights has already blessed my family.unless tbey ask us to pay back the bonus it can’t get worse, only better. hope to actually meet some of you one day. have a great holiday celebration!
Keith, I see you are in Omaha. What kind of weather is in store for your Christmas up there? We are getting a cold front tomorrow, maybe you could close that north gate for us??
Merry Christmas to all, especially my new and wonderful friends, the Everetts! As you & I discussed, Toni, the Christmas season can be a difficult one sometimes, fraught with sudden sadness, therefore my recent pessimistic attitude! My husband and I have much to be grateful for though, and the joy usually overrides the sadness. Hopefully 2013 will bring lots of good stuff!I have so many outlets in mind, should we be the recipients of new wealth, as I’m hoping all of y’all do too!
The Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development hosted the recent Cline Shale Session–which allows community leaders from several nearby towns (including Colorado City) to hold a roundtable discussion on the oil exploration and development. The session occurred on Dec. 14. The Sweetwater newspaper has now published two of what will be four articles on the session. The articles thus far are encouraging; they are linked below:

Carey J… thanks for the articles! I have minerals in Howard County… hoping things move in there too. Marry Christmas all…!
Wishing each of you a joyous Christmas and a prosperous new year.
I agree Toni. Eagle ford started slow and the Barnett here in north Texas is still being drilled, but since gas prices are so low we do not see near as many rigs. there is a new one between where I live and North East Mall. I am just glad there is drilling, but I do wish it was where we have mineral rights. My husband and I have been reading as much as we an find on the Cline as well as how to handle wealth if we are lucky enough to get a producing well. These days you can google any subject and learn so much. I suggest everyone look into how to handle sudden wealth. It would be a shame if someone got big returns and could not manage. Best to be prepared. Merry Christmas everyone!
Merry Christmas to all. It is common for O/G companies to slow down at the end of year due to budget constraints but come a new year and budget they start out gangbusters. Lets keep our fingers crossed.
How to handle new-found wealth if you get a producing well? Put the money in the bank, invest it in stocks, bonds or mutual funds — then pretend you don’t have it and keep on living exactly like you have been living. Royalty money can “go” just as quickly as it “comes” due to things beyond your control such as market swings or simply the nature of the geology. Having a bag of money fall out of the sky (or, in this case, come up out of the ground) doesn’t happen every day, so it should not be counted on to meet everyday expenses. It is an unexpected once in a lifetime bonus that should be saved in order to meet a once in a livetime unexpected need. It is icing on the cake that may come in handy to meet the cost of serious illness or nursing home care or be left to the Chruch or your kids when you are gone. That is my opinioin - your mileage may vary.
Sorry all… Merry Christmas!
What activity is picking up? As we’ve discussed, things are looking somewhat dismal…trying to stay optimistic…
Perhaps a Christmas lull. Let’s pause and give thanks that we have interests to lease and at least the potential to participate in whatever the future holds for those interests. It has been a pleasure to communicate with all of you on this site and I wish you a Merry Christmas and all the best in the coming new year.
Good to hear from so many MRF members and I just wanted to express my appreciation for all the good comments and information that are shared on this forum. I look forward to more good things happening in Mitchell Co. in 2013 and our family is extremely pleased with the leasing activity that we profited from during 2012. Thank all of you that have been helpful in sharing your experiences and knowledge. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of you! Don
Merry Christmas Everything…I am thankful for all of the blessing we have received in 2012…
Sorry…EVERYONE!!!..lol
You can tell my attention was diverted…
Merry Christmas to all of you. This discussion group has meant a lot to us! My father is 102 and I keep him updated with your info. I was hoping for some action on our minerals while he is still around, but he was so excited about the leasing, anyway. Ours is with Firewheel and we hope we are included in the next well. I, too, would love to meet some of you. We are in Arlington and hope to drive out to Mitchell Co. in the new year just to ‘see’. Thanks to all of you for being our ‘eyes’! Let’s hope the New Year brings more oil/gas exploration!
If any of you make it out here during 2013, look us up! Bill and Toni
