Mmcf or mcf when calculating gas royalties?

I have found two different types of royalty calculators... one uses mmcf (I read to add 000 to the end of the production number provided to State of WV) and the other uses mcf.

The one using mmcf asks for my acreage in the unit and total acreage as well as % of royalty and the one using mcf asks for decimal interest. Since I thought decimal interest was calculated using those variables, I don't understand why both don't use the same production variable.

Any help understanding this would be wonderful!!!

Thank you!!

They are just abbreviating basically. Both methods yield the same results.

MCF means Thousand Cubic Feet (M coming from the Roman numeral for 1,000) This is the basic unit of measurement for gas. Think of a box 10' x 10' x 10'. That is a thousand cubic feet.

MMCF means Million Cubic Feet (i.e.. One Thousand Thousand)

So 1 MMCF is the same as 1,000 MCF.
