I am interested in determining if there is any renewed interest in Moffat County Colorado oil and gas exploration. My family has held some mineral rights there for nearly 30 years. The rights were leased briefly in the 1980s, but except for some fleeting interest in 2015, we have heard nothing since. I am having difficulty finding any news on the local situation in Northwest Colorado. Can anyone share the lay of the land with me? Thank you.
You’ll have a better chance of getting an answer if you’ll post your question in the section of the forum related to your State and County instead of this general category.
You can do that by clicking the Counties heading at the top of this page, then select Colorado and then Moffat County. You’ll find a number of previous posts there, nothing recent, but things you still might be interested in reading, and if you’ll post your question there someone familiar with that area might be able to help you.
Best way is usually with a map (see below). You can see that Moffat is offset by a few major fields/plays. Most of it is old CBM (coal bed methane) and gas fields that have had some resurgence of interest. Most of the activity as of late has occurred in Uintah area. You can see the rigs and permits (yellow diamonds) in that play to the south of Moffat. Doesn’t mean that no new activity will occur in Moffat but the money is South and West for the time being.
Hi, Dusty! Thanks for responding. I will do as you suggest and post elsewhere, but since I have your ear, I would like to ask whether you can advise me on how to engage a private valuer in this industry to help me determine the likelihood that our holdings will ever be worth something. I have researched extensively on the internet and there has been no substantial news about Moffat for many years. I think I need to take a new angle. Advice?
You can observe qualified professionals (often with localized expertise) who provide services to mineral owners right here on The Mineral Rights Forum. You will notice them among 3 different instances on the site:
-
in display image ads and/or brief text messaging on site
-
in our Mineral Service Provider Directory in the main navigation above. These are arranged by professional discipline.
-
as a Business Member participating in many conversations throughout the site (note the blue colored “B” on their picture and blue text on their posts).
These practitioners are often able to provide the specific (and often localized) services that meet your needs.
