I still have not initiated a foreign probate in Coal County. I no longer have access to the attorney who handled the probate, so have to get a new attorney.

I just received a $2.00 check from Trinity operating. It is accompanied by a note that needs to be signed and returned that attests to receipt of check. They did not include a return envelope, which indicates to me they do not want the instrument returned.

The instrument doesn’t say what the payment is for, but refers to the check for explanation. The check has no explanation.

Is this a scam?

Call the phone number on the check or note and ask what section, township and range it is for and request a statement to go with it.

See what they say! I might not cash it until I knew what cashing it means. It may be a shut in payment. It might be a “paid in full” consequence that you might not want to acknowledge.
