New owner of mineral rights here. My question is whether there’s a recommended book or online class to take to get started learning the ropes. Thanks in advance for recommendations!

navigate to NARO - The Mineral Rights Forum here to see a Custom Category for the non profit association in America specifically for citizen oil and gas mineral owners.
Feel free to read widely on this forum. There are general as well as location specific Categories. Take some time to look around.
When comfortable, formulate and ask speciifc quesitons that you have, within the proper category.

Welcome to the forum. The Mineral Tab above has a short primer on the oil & gas business. NARO has chapters across the country which hold conferences, teach classes, give webinars, etc. which are relevant to their mineral owners. Many of the NARO directors are contributors to the forum. Depending upon your state, we can help direct you to more relevant publications.

Hi Ms. Barnes! I’m from New York, and the mineral rights are located in Oklahoma and Texas. I’m very willing to take a class or travel to a conference. I’ll be retiring this year. Looking forward to some freed up time.

We would love to see you at the conventions! The Oklahoma convention is in May in Oklahoma City. The Texas Convention is in July at the Barton Springs resort near Austin. The National Convention is in October in Oklahoma City.

Hello again. Thank you for this resource info! I was filling out my NARO app, but stumbled over primary state. I called the helpline, but no one answered. Do you know if primary state should be my home state or the state where I have the most mineral rights (Oklahoma)?

I pick the state where most of my minerals are. You can add in other states for $25 each.
