NM royalty search

I have a royalty conveyance from my mother to me and my sister dated in 2000 that references Federal Oil and Gas lease NM-054926 which lists two tracts in Chavez County, NM. Lessor is listed as USA and lessee is my father who left us his royalties. I’m interested in determining if the leases would still be in force and if there’s any drilling activity. Can anyone point me in a direction to find out. I have the recorded book and page numbers for Chavez County Clerk’s records but I don’t think they could tell me about drilling activity. Thanks

@ajaxup, welcome to the forum. Unfortunately that lease expired and was closed also around the year 2000. The areas it occupied (11S-31E, 12S-31E various sections) are currently non-producing and have been given over to another lease. The lease can be looked up in the BLM MRLS system and a link to the register page is here. xdo.pdf (12.4 KB) The status of the area can be viewed at NM_OCD_Viewer as shown below. The layers that show the BLM lease status must be turned on.

Thank you. I didn’t know anything about it since my father died in 1970. I didn’t know that leases with the government were perpetual or had an expiration date. Appreciate your response very much
