Option on Mineral Lease not Exercisede

My sisters and I own half of the mineral rights in the NE 6 T7N 65W, the other half belongs to the City of Thorton. We had our rights leased for 3 years with an option to extend the lease another 2 years. The lease expired the 7th of May and we have not heard anything from Anadarko. We do not know what Thorton has done with their half, or if they have done anything with them. We originally leased them to Hoover & Stacey for Anadarko. Phone calls to both parties have not been returned.

I would like to know the answers to the following questions:

If Thorton has leased their acres to someone, can the Co. they leased to force us to pool our half at their terms, or can we negotiate our own terms?

How can I find out what Thorton has done?

Can we still negotiate with other Companies other than whoever Thorton has contracted with? We are interested in leasing our half once again.

William,

Unless the City of Thornton has executive rights over your minerals, you are free to deal with whom you please.

the surface may have been annexed into Thornton and the CO Oil and Gas Commission is working on new rules for drilling. Anadarko has lots of acreage in Weld and may plan on selling some off. If you didn't receive any pooling hearing announcements you may not have any obligations. Absent drilling units already on your land, you should be free to do as you wish.
