Other well ownership

We have been informed of one well that was owned by my husband’s grandfather in Reeves County. We were informed about this well from a company that wanted to buy the mineral rights. After discussing with the various heirs, we have decided not to sell the mineral rights but instead we are working on the paperwork for the royalty from that well directly with the oil company.

However, a distant cousin (that is not direct lineage to the grandfather and has no interest to be gained) told us that the grandfather owned several wells in West Texas and also some wells in New Mexico.

How do we start searching for the possibility of ownership of other wells?

Thanks Pat

Get as much information as you can from your cousin, counties and any legal description. You can then start searching deed records online for your grandfather’s name.

When you say he owned several wells, are they indicating he owned a working interest in certain wells or possibly mineral interest in tracts where there was production?

Also check for his name in the Unclaimed Property sites for Texas and New Mexico.

For Texas, you can also try searching on www.Texasfile.com for his name.
