Reeves County Collecting Ward County property?

Hi Folks… It’s been awhile since I’ve been on here and I apologize if this topic has already been touched on; the one that populated was from 2021, so I figured I’d aim for more recent and up to date info.

We recently found out about property in Ward County that the operator, Point Energy, had been to contact us about but was unsuccessful. It wasn’t until I filed an updated COT with Ward County that we were informed of our interest in the Dino Juice wells and received a substantial check.

The taxes we’ve had to pay on these interests were also substantial; particularly because we are being taxed by both Ward and Reeves County for some reason?

I spoke with Ward County Tax Office who thought that sounded strange but wasn’t able to confirm or deny whether this was valid for Reeves to do.

For better perspective; here’s what we’ve paid Reeves the following over the past 5 years: $128 in 2019, $173 Delinquent taxes for 2021 and 2020
$498 alleged delinquent taxes again for 2022 $523 Additional Deliquent taxes for 2022 $1381 - 2023

And just received our 2024 statement in the amount of $1318.

2023 was also accompanied by legal letters threatening Tax Leins against our properties for non-payment; when I have paid every statement the moment I receive one.

It seems bizarre to me that they can send Delinquent notices for 2021 & 2022 in 2024.

I’ve heard of Reeves County having some clerical mishaps recently but I thought they had gotten things sorted out since then.

I feel like I’m being bullied to pay without asking any questions - of which I have many.

Any insight, input, advice or even confirmation that I’m not being swindled here would be greatly appreciated.

I have some producing royalty interest in Ward county and none in Reeves county. I get school tax bills from only from Reeves county and other tax bills from Ward county. I haven’t called Reeves Tax office yet, but I think this is probably because Reeves is the taxing authority for schools in this area. Maybe a consolidated school district or something similiar.

First, the Pecos-Barstow-Toyah ISD (PBT ISD) encompasses parts of both Reeves and Ward Counties. The schools are located in Reeves County and for example, the students who live in Town of Barstow go there for school. Reeves County CAD bills for the ISD taxes for the geographic area of Ward County. Ward County tax statements do not assess ISD taxes for PBT ISD. Ward County bills for Monahans and Royalty ISD which cover other portions of Ward County. If you look at your Ward County tax statement, it will detail which taxes are being charged, such as county and hospital. Second, Ward County will assess taxes for all owners in a well each year. The taxes are due whether the owner is in pay or unknown or has a bad address or the bill is lost in the mail. That is not the fault of the county. Unpaid taxes accumulate against the minerals for each year until they are paid, just like any other bill.
