I inherited mineral rights in Reeves Co.
I am very poor and this is a huge blessing from my grandmother. I don’t want to be ignorant as this may help my children for years.
Section 16, block C6 Reeves county.
I haven’t responded to a very low offer.
Can anyone help me know if this is producing ?
It is a Public Land Survey, so trying to zoom into the section. If you have an Abstract number or name, that would help.
There is a lot of horizontal drilling in the area, so I would ignore all of the offers to buy right now until you figure out exactly what you have. If you are getting offers, that is a good sign for pending or current activity.
Do you know if your grandmother was getting checks? If so, you would need to contact the operator and get you into pay status.
Many of us have been blessed by inheriting. I think I found it. Here is a map, see if anything looks familiar. I think you might be about to get new horizontal wells, so SLOW DOWN!
Look at A-1275. There might be two wells there. The operator is Caird Operating, Bertha Hoefs, et al, wells 2 & 4. The long sticks all around you are horizontal wells.
Do you have a copy of the probate or did someone just “tell you” that you inherited? You need proof of inheritance in order to get royalties or to sell. (Suggest not selling at this point as offers tend to be low to coming value if new wells are about to be drilled.)
If I were to guess, Permian Resources are Diamondback would be potential operators since they have the wells close by.
Check the Unclaimed Funds at the TX comptroller’s office for unclaimed funds under your grandmother and any other names you might have inherited from. https://www.claimittexas.gov/. If she did not live in Texas, then you need to check that state’s unclaimed funds.
Start with this and then come back with more questions. You may need to contact Caird Operating next.
These are maps of where that block and section are in Reeves County. You are in A-1275 about in the middle. I zoomed in so you could see the wells operated by Caird Operating.
Congratulations on this blessing! You are in the right place to find out more about this industry. I always encourage new mineral owners to join NARO (the National Assocation of Royalty Owners) to learn more about the “ins and outs” of ownership. I totall agree with Martha’s advice to slow down. You don’t want to accidentally agree to something that will cause you major regrets later. This is a HIGHLY DESIRABLE AREA for minerals (think Boardwalk/Park Place side of the Monopoly board ). Please let us know if you have specific questions or need any help trying to contact the operator(s) or finding funds that you may be entitled to.
@E_Faith_Jones - My family has an interest in the same section (Blk C-6, Sec 16). My great-grandmother is Bertha Hoefs. We have a very small royalty interest in these wells, which have been producing since the 1970s. We get very small payments but they keep coming and add up over time.
We also got two or three different purchasers trying to buy our interest in this section over the past year, which we haven’t taken. After seeing that there is tons of development in the surrounding sections, we’ve assumed the people who want to buy us out know something that we don’t and I’m optimistic there will be new development before long and we’ll get some real money out of this section.
According to public records, next door in Block C-6, Section 18 some permits for new wells were filed in April and were spudded in early June (spudding is the start of the process of drilling a new well). Hopefully that means we’re next!
