Researching heritage on oil wells old

We understand my wife’s grandfather owned 2 wells in Eddy County and he passed away in the late 50s. We know the names of the 2 wells, but not much else. we’d appreciate guidance on finding specific locations, and mineral rights ownership and history.

For basic research you can contact the clerks office in Eddy County. Tell them your story, give them the name of the grandfather, the approximate date he passed away, and request all documents they can find associated with his name before he passed away in the late '50s. There may be deeds with land descriptions, oil and gas leases, a will or final decree, etc., associated with his name before, during, or even after that time period that they can email to you for your records. Or, you can contact the NM Oil Conservation Commission for more information on the oil wells: OCD Home - Oil Conservation

From the name of the wells somebody can at least tell you the location. Which is a decent place to start looking to see if you/they still own rights there.

Good info. I’ll put that to use. Thanks.
