Six months is what I’ve seen requested and what I’ve given in Seismic Permits I’ve signed. That should give them plenty of time.
Why do you want to allow seismic on an unleased tract?
To encourage oil and gas exploration, which might lead to leasing, drilling and production (and of course royalties). These days it’s very rare for an oil company to drill without seismic.
That is not true for many companies, particularly in active areas. Generally, the seismic company is working on behalf of the owner of a large seismic library which is banking data to license to large oil companies. This is a profit operation and not being conducted by an operator.
