Hello,
I joined this forum last week. I live in Washington State and recently my wife received a letter from Continential Resources saying she has interest in a well. The letter said her name came up on a title search for Garvin County. They were asking for her tax info so they could set up an account for her.
Honestly at first I thought this was a scam. We've never been to Oklahoma, nor did we know of any family that lived in the area, or owned property in OK. They sent a tax form for her to fill out. We just ignored it until her brother also received a similar letter. He contacted the company and they told him a family member passed away and left them the interest.
I had some back and forth with Continential, they gave me the well information they both have an interest. They said it was the Skelton well located at Secs. 15 & 22.
So I guess my question is what can we expect out of this? Maybe that is an impossible question to answer, but we've never had any dealings with property rights, oil, etc. Nor did we have any idea this was coming to us. Do we get yearly dividend checks or something? Is there anything else required on our end?
Thank you,
Josh Murphy

Hi Josh, Welcome! Lots of us on this board inherited mineral rights and have, with the help of the more experienced members, found our way.
I am assuming that they are sending you a division order and I-9 for payment purposes. The division order will show the % of ownership and other information.
If I were your wife, I would ask around my family to see what if any other mineral rights may have been left to me by this same person. It's sure possible that this is it, but it is also possible that there are more. Getting this information is very tough, so before the dust settles and everyone's memories fade, it would be great to know if there are any other properties, producing or not.
I am sure you'll have more questions on this. Welcome again!
Josh-you might want to investigate how much she owns, and whether it was leased or force pooled.
If you want to share the name of her ancestor, someone on this board might be able to tell you more.
BTW, your wife's situation is not unusual.
leased = someone at some point in time executed an oil and gas lease that covers the interest.
force pooled = named in a Force Pooling Cause before the Oklahoma Corporation Commission.
Did Steven McAllister inherit the property from someone?
