Small Owners Getting Answers from Big Oil

Hello Small Owners,

I am several years into conversations (limited) with ConocoPhillips over my family’s mineral rights in Ward County, TX. At issue are a number of leases, ownership and wells which have a long history in Ward County dating to 1931 and earlier with several Texas Supreme Court cases over disputed trusteeship management. I have had several email/phone conversations with several Senior Land Negotiators and a Division Order Analyst at ConocoPhillips as well as contact with an COG Operating agent over assigning ownership to my mother’s trust as opposed to the children. These conversation are now almost two years old. Repeated attempts at contact by email or phone have had no results. The ownership is not large but two wells, never in pay, are holding $30K+. What are my next steps?

Your situation sounds complicated. Conoco will only release funds where they are certain that the title is in place and undisputed. You need anTexas oil and gas attorney to help you get this resolved.

Conoco is very rigid in my experience. They need to provide you with a clear answer as to what they are expecting from you to complete the transfer. Given the value you referenced, a good O&G attorney may be better suited to complete this task. Conoco is the most thorough company I’ve ever had to deal with, and while frustrating at times, I actually admire the fact that they are extremely close attention to details.
