Why so long for a well completion?

it generally takes four to five months to drill and complete a two section well. When you have multiple wells with infill drilling, they use the same rig (usually) and just scoot it over a bit for each surface location. They drill them back to back and then come in with the frac crew at the end to save money. So a much longer total time to drill and complete. They do save time by drilling them back to back.

Spud doesn’t mean the wells are being drilled. A spudder rig is used most of the time to drill & set surface casing. Then another rig comes in later to drill the remainder of the vertical & horizontal portion of the well. Patience.

Thanks Martha, as usual you are the best. The original Whetstone multi-unit well took a total of two months to spud, complete, and 1st production date. So I’m to understand that because it’s three wells that it takes three times longer, big bummer. I’ll be dead by then. Kinda kidding but might think of selling. Permits over two years ago, just frustrated.

The first Whetstone did move very quickly. When (and if) they bring a rig back onto the infill wells, it will get progress going again. The timing just depends upon when they have a rig available and when the frac crews are available (and if the economics make sense). Plus drill pipe, chemicals, etc.
