OxyRock Wheatgrass Unit permits Sec.21&24, Blk 34, T1N Howard County
I see OxyRock has filed 6 new permits here. three are stacked laterals. Any idea how many horizontal legs will there be in each of the 3 permits that are “stacked laterals”?
Anyone now when they might start building locations and drilling?
Each permit has its own horizonal leg. They will scoot the rig over for each one. Note that the surface location is just a few feet different for each well. Crownquest Operatoing has a rig onsite and spud the S Wilkinson 336LL on Nov 2. The rig is sitting in A-1647, just off of Wilkinson Rd. The rig is on the middle well of the set of three heading south (under the set of four heading north.) Just a bit SW of the dry hole 35224.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR RESPONSE. Ii FOUND A TOTAL OF 7 PERMITS.
227 42625-31, 5 OF THE PERMIS SHOW AS “STACKED” AND 3 SHOW AS ALLOCATED WELLS. WIILL THE STACKED LATERALS HAVE AT LEAST TWO HZ LEGS PER PERMIT? IF SO THAT WOULD MEAN THAT WE SHOW PERMITS FOR 13 WELLS THAT GO THRU THE W/2 OF SECTION 21.
DO YOU THINK THEY WILL DRILL ALL OF THEM/ YOU SAID THEY STARTED DRILLING IN NOVEMEBR, CORRECT. THIS APPEARS TO BE A YEAR LONG PROJECT, ASSUMING WE HAVE 8-13 WELLS TO BE DRILLED AND FRAC.
I am not sure how they are using the term “stacked”. It could be that they are perforating two or more reservoirs in the same horizontal well. Only the operator knows how many will actually get drilled.
In looking at some data, it appears that the 5 well pad for OxyRock could drill one HZ well every 20± days, so 100 days ± to drill all 5 permits. Frac could take another 30 +days. Do you agree?
Only the operator knows for sure. I think the time frame is a bit short.
M Barnes, thanks for your replies . It has been two months or so, is OxyRock drilling additional well permits in the W/2 Section 21?
I only see Crownquest Operating drilling to the south from section 24 into 33 and then into 2 in Blk 34 T1S. No perfs in 24.
Looks like the Occidental Wheatgrass wells have surface locations in sect 33 and go north into the West half of 24 and 21. Not rig onsite at the moment, but Crownquest has one only a few hundred feet away. Wells are 1JM, 2DN (maybe), 3LL, 4HB on the most western pad and 5DN, 6LL, 7HA, 8DN on the more eastern pad.

Sure appreciate the updated information.
M. Barnes,
You kindly responded to my question and wrote that Crownquest has a drilling rig on the east 4 well pad in Sec.33 and is currently drilling the #1JM well. The permit for the #1JM well has it drilling from 33 north thru the west side of Sec. 23 & 21. Do I have that correct?
Again, your connections and expertise in this areas activity is greatly appreciated.
No rig onsite at the moment, but some nearby. The Wheatgrass wells are still listed as permitted, not drilled. Yes, the 1JM goes north from 33 into 23 and 21. No perfs in 33.
Thank you so much fr the clarification and update.
M. Barnes,
I have found conflicting data on AI and the TRC website. It goes from one well Nbeing drilled, the #1JM to all 8 wells, the #5DN, #6LL, #3LL, #7A, #8DN#2DN, and #4HB being drilled and producing or shut-in. Very confusing. I also find that there are either one or two rigs drilling the project. Then I find no SHL in the NWNWNW of Section 33, as I sent a landman out to look at the area to see if anything was going. He found no activity. Can you please shed any light on the Wheatgrass project fo me as to the current status from your sources.
These permits take time to develop. The permit may have an intended location, but the surface pad may not have been built yet as your landman confirmed. I do not see a rig on site but there are two in the nearby area. You can call the operator, but no guarantee you will actually find the right person to talk to. I usually just put a tickle reminder on my calendar and come back in a few months and check the state website for activity. Nothing we can do to hurry anyone into faster action.
Thanks for your response. It’s crazy what the AI copilot states has happened, and I don’t think any of it is true except for the eight approved permits in September 2024
